Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12th, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej [now OnestiGheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej [now Onesti Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to receive a score of a perfect of 10 in an Olympic event. Comaneci was spotted by Bela Karolyi later the Romanian gymnastics instructor when she was only six years old. The year 1969 was the first time she participated at the Romanian Junior Championships and placed 13th. In 1970, she won the title. The first time she competed in an international event in an preolympics junior event that was open to countries of the communist bloc, she took home three gold medals. And in 1973 and 1975, she won crowned all-around Junior Champion. Her debut as a Senior in 1975 she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turkishcheva.
